Mississippi Cold Cases

In the weeks leading up to the 2005 prosecution of Edgar Ray Killen for the 1964 murders of three civil rights workers in Neshoba County, Mississippi, I was the only media Killen allowed to interview and photograph him on multiple occasions in his home. The insight gained from this experience spurred me to investigate other cold cases from this era in my home state of Mississippi, including the 1964 murders of teenagers Henry Dee and Charles Moore in southwest Mississippi. This 2005 investigation revealed that the prime suspect, James Ford Seale – long reported dead – was in fact alive, which led the U.S. Justice Department to reopen the case against him, resulting in a 2007 conviction sentencing Seale to three life terms.
